organisational Profile

United Sustainable Energy Agency is a not for profit company providing services to the Public Sector, Business, and Individuals to help them reduce carbon, adapt to climate change and tackle fuel poverty.

The agency was founded in 2008 by the merger of 2 existing energy agencies: Thames Valley Energy Centre and Milton Keynes Energy Agency.  USEA is an operator for the Energy Saving Trust in the Thames Valley and Solent region of South East England.  We employ 29 staff and have our Headquarters in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire and an office in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Key Work Areas

Energy Efficiency, Transport, Waste and Water Advice to Consumers

We advise around 80,000 people a year on how to take steps to reduce their carbon footprint. We do this over the phone and face to face. Our expert Advisors target both the general public and the staff of major employers. We encourage householders to complete a free 'Home Energy Check'. In return, householders receive an energy report outlining ways to make their home more energy efficient. Other activities include the use of a driving simulator to encourage smarter driving.

Scheme Management for insulation and renewable energy initiatives

We manage council wall and loft insulation grants and similar schemes to help residents save energy and reduce emissions. We also help to transform markets in favour of advanced technology. We ran a project, ‘The Big Green Boiler Scheme’, which promoted high efficiency residential heating boilers. Around 15,000 high efficiency boilers were installed.

Climate Change Strategy development for Local Government

We assist many municipalities to develop their response to climate change mitigation and adaptation.  We evaluate municipalities and work with the key decision makers and politicians to establish a baseline position, identify opportunities and develop a strategic way forward.

Energy Auditing for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs)

SMEs are vital to the economy of South East England and in these challenging times we help businesses to reduce both their operating costs and their environmental impact.

Technical Feasibility studies for new build housing developments

We work with social housing providers to include low carbon technologies in new building projects. The homes have a small carbon footprint and occupants enjoy reduced energy costs. We also work with councils on the improvement of existing housing, much of which is ‘system built’ from concrete panels and is hard to improve by conventional methods.
